Solubility: Benzalkonium Chloride (RETANIL) is soluble in water and other polar solvents, which allows it to be easily incorporated into water-based formulations.
Anti-static: As a chemical substance with a cationic surface, RETANIL can exhibit anti-static properties, which is helpful in textile processes.
Leveling and Evening Agent: RETANIL acts as a leveling agent with an affinity for acrylic fibers. At the beginning of the fabric dyeing process, it can reach the target dyeing sites within the fabric fibers faster than the dyestuffs. Consequently, it slows down the rate of dye exhaustion and, in high thermal ranges (greater than 80°C), reduces the strike rate of cationic dyes, leading to uniform dye absorption across the fabric.
Cationic Compound: As a cationic compound, Benzalkonium Chloride carries a positive charge, allowing it to interact with negatively charged surfaces such as microbial cell membranes, thereby enhancing its antimicrobial performance. On the other hand, as a retarder in the textile industry, it competes with cationic dyes to occupy anionic sites. In the later stages of dyeing, as the temperature increases, some of the retarder’s cationic bonds break, creating new binding sites for the dyestuff, which ultimately results in complete dyeing and color uniformity.
Broad-Spectrum Antimicrobial Activity: Benzalkonium Chloride exhibits a broad spectrum of antimicrobial properties and is effective against various species of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and certain protozoan parasites. This compound inactivates or destroys these microorganisms by disrupting their cell membranes.
Surfactant Agent: As a low-foaming surfactant, Benzalkonium Chloride reduces the surface tension between liquids and solids. This property enables it to improve the wetting, spreading, and penetration characteristics of materials, making it valuable in various formulations.
